The Story

Dating back to the late 1950s to early 1960s, this lamp is a quintessential example of the "Organic Modern" and "Hollywood Regency" design movements. During this post-war era, interior design shifted toward bringing natural, biomorphic shapes indoors, but often with a luxurious, theatrical twist. While this specific piece is unmarked, it is heavily analogous to the iconic chalkware designs produced by legendary makers like Reglor of California and the Continental Art Company. Much like the highly sought-after Reglor lamps, this piece utilizes cast Plaster of Paris (chalkware) to achieve complex, fluid shapes that traditional wood carving couldn't easily replicate for the mass market. The combination of nature-inspired "faux wood" texturing paired with glamorous gold accents is a hallmark of mid-century California design, making it a perfect statement piece for modern, eclectic, or vintage-inspired interiors.

THE DESIGN

Bring a touch of organic glamour to your space with this striking vintage sculptural table lamp. Designed to mimic the natural, wind-swept twists and voids of weathered driftwood, this heavy, cast-plaster piece acts as a functional work of art. The lamp features a highly textured white gesso base that has been beautifully accented with hand-applied gold leaf highlighting, giving it a luminous, multi-dimensional appearance that shifts depending on the light. It sits atop a classic 1950s scalloped "cloverleaf" base painted in a matching antique gold. Please note that this piece is being sold "as-is"; it retains its beautiful, authentic vintage patina, minor age-appropriate wear to the finish, and its original electrical components.

Material: Cast Chalkware (Plaster of Paris) body; Brass-plated steel harp and socket base.

Color/Finish: White gesso with faux-wood texturing and hand-applied gold leaf/paint highlights.

Condition (AS-IS): Good vintage condition. This is a historied vintage item. It features standard surface wear, slight rubbing to the gold finish, and natural patina on the metal hardware.

Important Safety Note: This lamp features its original vintage wiring. While intact, a safety check or rewiring by a professional is highly recommended before regular daily use. Plug is an early non-polarized style. Lightbulb and shade are not included.
