Vintage Van Briggle Art Pottery Fluted Scalloped Edge Bowl - Mocha Drip Glaze
SHIPPING AND PRICING TBD
THE DESIGN
Enhance your mid-century, bohemian, or organic modern home decor with this striking vintage art pottery bowl from the historic Van Briggle workshops. This round collectible piece features an elegant, multi-lobed fluted rim that beautifully mimics the natural symmetry of a blooming lotus flower or structural melon profile.
The exterior showcases a highly tactile, multi-layered glaze treatment: a deep, earth-toned mocha brown base layer topped with a frothy, cascading seafoam green mottled drip glaze. This gloss finish thins gracefully at the peak points of the scalloped rim and pools into dramatic, organic vertical tendrils down each lobe. The interior basin is fully coated in a rich, warm amber-brown glaze that catches ambient light beautifully, highlighting the subtle throwing rings and natural variance of the native Colorado clay body.
THE STORY
Established in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1901 by Art Nouveau artist Artus Van Briggle and his wife Anne (Lawrence) Van Briggle, the Van Briggle Pottery company is one of the oldest and most celebrated names in American art pottery history. Renowned for its matte glazes and organic, nature-inspired forms, the pottery evolved over the decades. The "Anna Van Briggle" line was introduced in the mid-20th century (predominantly during the 1950s and 1960s) to showcase glossier, more experimental drip and flow glazes that perfectly captured the mid-century modern aesthetic while honoring the studio's traditional pottery roots.
